Service Description
For the scales 1:5.000.000 and less detailed, data are aggregated by country. In such case, a pie or bar charts show 1) the distribution of the different bathing water categories, 2) percentage of inland waters (lakes and rivers) and coastal waters, and 3) percentage of bathing water quality for coastal waters and inland waters. For the scale more detailed than 1:5 000.000, individual bathing water sites (points) are visible instead of classified cartogram and are coloured according the classification of bathing water quality. For bathing places that are insufficiently sampled under the strict frequency rules, orange outline of symbol showing status of bathing places by less strict rules is presented. For an explanation of less strict and strict rules see the chapter “Information about the data”. Data source: http://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/bathing-water-directive-status-of-bathing-water-7

Service Description
The dataset contains data on nutrients and organic matter, proxy pressure data on the upstream catchments and physical characteristics of the WISE-SoE lake monitoring stations. Waterbase contains timely, reliable and policy-relevant data collected from EEA member countries through the WISE-SoE data collection (formerly known as Eionet-Water and Eurowaternet) process. WISE-SoE data collection selects validated monitoring data from national databases and adds information on the physical characteristics of the water bodies being monitored and on the pressures potentially affecting water quality. The added value of Waterbase is that data collected through the WISE-SoE data collection process are from statistically stratified monitoring stations and groundwater bodies and are comparable at the European level. Waterbase data are primarily used in the production of the EEA's indicator-based factsheets. Service Description
This maps in this viewer shows the ecological status (i.e. status or potential) of macroinvertebrates and phytobenthos in European rivers (i.e. rivers and canals) potentially impacted by general degradation and of macrophytes and phytobenthos in European lakes (i.e. lakes and reservoirs) potentially impacted by eutrophication, respectively . The ecological status class of a country's waterbodies (or stations) is assessed by each country according to their national classification system, following the Water Framework Directive. The assessment may be based by one or more samples measured during the year of reporting. The ecological status in rivers or lakes is displayed as classified cartograms in a country-level map: it displays the distribution of status classes per country as one pie chart for each country. This can be used to compare the situation in your country with that in other countries. When the map is zoomed in to a more detailed scale individual station points are visible instead of classified cartograms. The map reflects the most recent available information on implementation of the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD) in EU 27 as reported by the Member States under UWWTD (91/271/EEC). The last reporting exercise under UWWTD article 15 was organised in 20097 (UWWTD20097), with the European Commission aiming to receive information on the implementation of the UWWTD in the reference year 20075 (situation as at 31/12/20075) or 20086 (situation as at 31/12/20086). For EU15 (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and UK) the latest date to fully comply with the Directive was 31/12/2005. The map shows: • Summary diagrams on pathways of waste water (= type of treatment) based on total generated load in p.e. of all agglomerations ≥ 2000 p.e. in a Member State • Location and size of agglomerations • For agglomerations > 150.000 p.e. the pathways of waste water (= type of treatment) based on total generated load in p.e. in the agglomeration For the scales 1 : 10 000 000 and less detailed summary diagrams are presented as pie charts for each Member State. The size of each segment of the pie charts is proportional to the percentage of the waste water of all agglomerations attributed to the respective wastewater pathway, in other words expressing the pollutant load undergoing the different types of treatment. The segments of the pies are coloured according to the different waste water pathways. The sum of these percentage values should be 100%. Please note that in cases , where the sum of percent values do not sum up to 100 % it is caused either by incomplete dataset or erroneous one provided. Moreover, “new” EU-Member States, for which the UWWTD-trasitional period has not passed until 31.12.20075 were nor required to differentiate the fraction of the generated load of an agglomeration entering the different treatment types. For the scale of between 1 : 10 000 000 and 1:500.000

Data source: http://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/waterbase-rivers-10, http://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/waterbase-lakes-10

Service Description
Data on transitional, coastal and marine waters are collected annually through the WISE-SoE data collection process. The data requested on transitional, coastal and marine waters include the physical characteristics of the transitional, coastal and marine water monitoring and flux stations, proxy pressures on the upstream catchment, basin and River Basin District associated with transitional and coastal waters, chemical quality data on nutrients in seawater and hazardous substances in biota, sediment and seawater, as well as data on direct discharges and riverine input loads.
