WISE UWWTD Viewer – about Urban
Waste Water Treatment agglomerations map
What is on the map?
The map reflects the most recent available information on
implementation of the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD) in EU-27 as
reported by the Member States under UWWTD (91/271/EEC). The last reporting
exercise under UWWTD article 15 was organised in 2009 (UWWTD2009), with the
European Commission aiming to receive information on the implementation of the
UWWTD in the reference year 2007 (situation as at 31/12/2007) or 2008
(situation as at 31/12/2008). For EU-15 (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland,
France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal,
Spain, Sweden and UK) the latest date to fully comply with the Directive was
31/12/2005.
The data are displayed in the following four layers:

Proportion of total generated load by agglomeration size
·
Waste Water Treatment agglomerations by size
·
Waste Water Treatment pathways in agglomerations with a
size > 150.000 p.e

dischargers and agglomerations smaller than 150 000 p.e. in a
Layer: Waste Water
Treatment agglomerations by size displays location and size of
agglomerations. Individual agglomerations, displayed at more detailed
scale are presented as purple dots with legend
size reflecting the different agglomeration size classes.
Layer: Waste Water
Treatment pathways in agglomerations with a size > 150.000 p.e displays
Individual big cities /big dischargers (i.e. agglomerations of size >
150.000 p.e.) as pie charts, when zooming further in. The size of each segment
of the pie charts is proportional to the percentage of the waste water of the
agglomerations attributed to the respective wastewater pathway. The segments of
the pies are coloured according to the different wastewater pathways.
Agglomerations smaller than 150 000 p.e. are displayed as purple dots.
Receiving areas represented as catchments of sensitive
areas, areas designated under the article 5(8) and normal areas are displayed
in the additional layer.
What can I do?

· When you zoom-in, you can view the location and size of
all agglomerations >= 2.000 p.e. in the EU as reported in the frame of the
UWWTD.
· When
pointing at a specific pie chart at country -level or at a specific
agglomeration at a higher zoom-level, a pop-up window provides further
details. Two types of information are available in pop-up window for big
cities/big dischargers. Beside the information on the waste water pathways aportionment a chart
illustrating trend in
wastewater pathways apportionment reported in two successive reporting
exercises (2007 and 2009) is displayed.
· Information
in pop-up windows can be printed by mouse right-clicking or via the Print
Screen tab on your keyboard
· With help of the "Find Location" - tool you can
select an agglomeration or plant by ID or name and zoom-in to it.
· See
more about functionalities in the general map description from the 'i' menu
